Kitchen set to re-open

After a blaze ripped through the kitchen of Mackenzies café-bar on Wood Street last week, we can now confirm that work to rebuild the fire-damaged area - including the kitchen roof - is underway.
 
And the refurbished kitchen is set to open for service on Monday 30 June.

Kitchen fire sparks disaster for Wood Street bar
 
Wood Street came to a stand-still yesterday afternoon as firefighters battled a kitchen blaze in a popular Old Town bar.

The fire, which engulfed the kitchen of Mackenzies café-bar, began just after 4pm.
 
One onlooker told us: "I was on Wood Street when the fire alarms started going off and five fire engines turned up.

No smoke without fire:
firefighters were forced to use breathing apparatus
 
"It looked pretty serious because the firemen went in wearing breathing apparatus, and I could see flames rising from the back of the building.

"The kitchen roof was destroyed and the kitchen looked gutted."
